Roundabouts
Roundabouts are a fairly new alternative to traditional intersections in the United States and specifically in the Midwest. Each year they become more and more popular due to their benefits and safety features.
Our modern roundabouts have yield signs at their entries, along with yield lines, while the circulating traffic has the right-of-way.
Benefits of a roundabout include keeping traffic moving and efficient – one is required to yield rather than to stop. Traffic is always flowing and therefore more efficient.
There is a safety factor with slow speeds and no right-angle collisions. Roundabouts are aesthetically pleasing with a central island providing an opportunity for landscaping. Additional benefits include less air and noise pollution, safer than conventional intersections with greater than 90 percent reduction in fatalities according to studies done in the United States.
Every roundabout is custom designed to the proper radius for each entry and exit.
